FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The American Volleyball Coaches Association has bestowed Fayetteville State middle blocker Ifeyinwa Nwokolo with Honorable Mention Honors on the 2012 AVCA Atlantic All-Region Team. The postseason honor for Nwokolo is her fourth of the season after earning multiple honors by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. She was recognized this season as the CIAA Player of the Year, First Team All-CIAA and CIAA All-Tournament Team.
The senior from Greensboro, NC has played an instrumental role for the Lady Broncos in 2012. FSU captured its fourth CIAA Championship in program history and received the eighth seed in the Atlantic Region of the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Regional Championships.
Nwokolo became the fourth Fayetteville State player in the last six years to receive CIAA Player of the Year honors. She finished the regular season ranked first in the conference in hitting percentage (.389) and 10th nationally. Nwokolo also ranked among the top three in kills (347) and points (413.5) within the conference. She tallied 84 total blocks (19 solo, 65 assisted) after playing in 31 matches this season with 24 starts. Nwokolo had a career-high 27 kills over Virginia State. She had 16 matches in which she tallied double-digit kills, including five straight during the CIAA Championship run.
Fayetteville State will face top-seed Wheeling Jesuit on Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Alma Grace McDonough Center in Wheeling, WV.
