Hampton, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) named Fayetteville State middle blocker Chekimbrell Jefferson the 2008 CIAA Player of the Year at the Volleyball Championship Banquet held inside the Virginia Air and Space Center.

Jefferson, a 6'2, junior from Laurel Hill, NC, earns the player of the year award for the second consecutive season. Jefferson ended the season number one in the conference in hitting percentage (.351) and kills (3.48 per set). She was the driving force that led the Lady Broncos to a 19-15 overall record, 13-1 conference mark, and a perfect 9-0 in the Western Division.

During her 2007 campaign, Jefferson set the single mark and surpassed the career total for kills with 474. FSU also won the CIAA Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II Regional Playoffs for the first time in school history.

The Lady Broncos were the top seed in the CIAA Western Division, and advanced to the CIAA Championship Match against Eastern Division top seed Elizabeth City State. It took ECSU five sets, but they eventually captured the title. FSU had three Lady Broncos named to the All-Tournament Team, including Jefferson.
