FAYETTEVILLE - The Fayetteville State volleyball team closes out the regular season tonight in a pivotal match at Chowan at 6 p.m. Both teams enter tonight's game 12-1 in CIAA play. The Broncos beat the Hawks 3-2 (25-18, 25-19, 8-25, 13-25, 15-8) on Sept. 22 at Capel Arena in the teams' only meeting. "Between them (Chowan) and Elizabeth City State, that's our competition at the top of the conference," first-year head coach Reeshemah Johnson said following FSU's win over Chowan. " We really wanted to beat them tonight so we could put ourselves in their category." FSU (15-7, 12-1 CIAA, 8-0 Western Division) has won 12 consecutive CIAA matches and 10 straight overall. "We're going to in there playing hard," said first-year head coach Reeshemah Johnson. "You always want to go into the tournament playing your best volleyball. If we can get the win, then everyone will know that we are the team to beat." Added junior Samantha Meeks: "We practice hard and we've been training. We are ready to put our hard work to use." Chowan (22-8, 12-1 CIAA, 7-1 Western Division) is led by Callie Armistead, who leads the CIAA in total assists and assists per game.
