FSU VOLLEYBALL PICKS UP TWO CIAA WEEKLY AWARDS

HAMPTON, VA - Fayetteville State right side hitter Joylene Thompson and head coach Reeshemah Johnson have been recognized by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association for their performances on the volleyball court last week. Thompson was named the CIAA Player of the Week and Johnson the CIAA Coach of the Week.

Joylene Thompson (Jr., Spanish Town, JA) led Fayetteville State offensively with 35 kills in five matches. She averaged at least two kills per set, while also recording four service aces, 22 digs and nine block assists. She led the Lady Broncos with nine kills in back-to-back contests against Mount Olive and Pfeiffer in the Mount Olive College Classic. Thompson had eight kills against Benedict and seven in a victory over Livingstone. She is currently second on the team with 152 total kills and 153 digs. Thompson has also contributed 11 service aces and 40 total blocks (five solo and 35 assisted).

Coach Johnson guided FSU to a 3-2 record last week and 1-0 mark in CIAA play. She posted three consecutive sweeps against Livingstone, Benedict and Mount Olive. Fayetteville State finished the week 2-0 at home and is now 10-0 when playing at Felton J. Capel Arena - which is the most during Johnson's tenure. This is Johnson's third Coach of the Week honor this season.
