FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State volleyball team returns to conference play on Thursday evening as it travels to face the Winston-Salem State Rams at the C.E. Gaines Center. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Lady Broncos enter the contest with a 14-3 overall record and 11-0 mark in the league, while the Rams are currently 5-15 on the season and 5-6 in conference play. Fayetteville State holds a first place lead in the CIAA Southern Division with a 5-0 division record, and Winston-Salem State is in third place with a 2-2 record.
FSU won the previous meeting against the Rams earlier this season in Fayetteville. The Lady Broncos trailed in the match 2-0 before rallying from behind to win 3-2. Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (Sr., Greensboro, NC) led Fayetteville State with 18 kills in the first meeting, and Jessica Hardy (So., Fayetteville, NC) added 11. Molly Farrington (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) dished out 24 assists and JaMisha Jordan (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) tallied 27 digs.
Nwokolo leads the Lady Broncos on offense with 202 kills, and is one of three players with over 100 apiece. Joi Emanuel (Sr., Charlotte, NC) has contributed 111 kills to go with Joylene Thompson’s (Jr., Spanish Town, JA) 110. Farrington’s 248 assists are tops on the team, while Jordan has recorded a team-best 231 digs and 53 service aces.
Winston-Salem State, offensively, has three players with 100 kills or more on the season. Francesca Edgerton leads the team with 143 kills, while De Ann Smith has 138 and Katelyn Sigala 112. Kayla Brass, who has been the primary setter, is leading the team with 416 assists. Four different Rams have recorded 100 or more digs in 2012, led by Avoni Seymour’s 145.

FSU VOLLEYBALL RALLIES IN FIVE-SET THRILLER OVER WINSTON-SALEM STATE 3-2
The Fayetteville State volleyball team came back from two sets down in its CIAA opener on Monday evening to defeat the Winston-Salem Lady Rams in five sets 3-2 as Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (Sr., Greensboro, NC) paced the way with a team-high 18 kills in the contest. The Lady Broncos improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in CIAA play, while the Lady Rams fall to 0-9 overall and 0-1 in conference action. Fayetteville State won the match by scores of 23-25, 22-25, 25-12, 25-14, 15-4.
