CU Volleyball Rolls to 3-0 Win Over St. Augustine's

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Chowan University volleyball team picked up another win Saturday afternoon at the CIAA Round-Up hosted by Fayetteville State University. Saturday's win marked Chowan's eighth consecutive CIAA win.

The Hawks defeated St. Augustine's University 3-0 to roll to 10-4 on the season and 8-0 in CIAA play. Karina Monroe led the squad with nine kills, followed by Monica Ruffinwith eight. Callie Armistead tallied 25 assists in the win.

Chowan grabbed the first set 25-21 with Monroe and Ruffin teaming up to lead the offensive attack. Chowan controlled essentially the entire set, trailing the Lady Falcons only three times.

St. Augustine's University gained some momentum heading into the second set. The Lady Falcons jumped out to take a quick 13-8 lead. The Hawks battled to catch St. Augustine's, eventually tying the set 16-16. The Hawks took over from there, taking advantage of five Lady Falcon errors to grab the second set 25-20.

Chowan dominated the third and final set, leading by as many as 10 points at a time. The Hawks captured the third set with a 25-16 final score with another solid performance from the Monroe-Ruffin tandem. They resume play in the CIAA Round-Up at 3:00pm when they take on the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos.
