LINCOLN, PA – Fayetteville State volleyball wrapped up play in its first CIAA Roundup of the season on Sunday by defeating Virginia Union and Lincoln (PA) by back-to-back 3-0 scores.
The Lady Broncos (5-0, 4-0 CIAA) won their first match of the day over the Panthers by a score of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-16, while sweeping the Lions 25-10, 25-18 and 25-16. Fayetteville State did not lose a single set on the weekend, and have now won five matches in a row to start the season.
Virginia Union falls to 0-12 on the season and 0-4 in CIAA play with the loss, while Lincoln (PA) drops to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in conference action.
Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (Sr., Greensboro, NC), for the third straight match, led the Lady Broncos on offense against the Panthers as she tallied 12 kills on 18 attempts while also recording four service aces. Joi Emanuel (Sr., Charlotte, NC) added five kills in the contest, and Molly Farrington (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) dished out a team-high 10 assists. JaMisha Jordan (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) also added four service aces and led Fayetteville State for the second consecutive contest in digs with 12.
In the second match of the day Jessica Hardy (So., Fayetteville, NC) led the Lady Broncos with nine kills, her second highest of the season, while also contributing two service aces and two digs. Nwokolo added eight kills, giving her a total of 34 for the weekend, and recorded two assists, three service aces and five digs. Emanuel contributed five kills in the match and Farrington had nine assists. Jordan compiled six service aces against the Lions, and tied for the team-lead with Joylene Thompson (Jr., Spanish Town, JA) in digs with nine each.
Fayetteville State will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 18 as it hosts UNC Pembroke at 6 p.m.
