LINCOLN, PA – The Fayetteville State volleyball team remains undefeated on the 2012 season as it defeated the Bowie State Bulldogs 3-0 on the first day of a CIAA Roundup hosted by Lincoln (PA.).
The Lady Broncos improve to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in CIAA play, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-11 overall and 0-4 in conference action.
Fayetteville State won the match by scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-19. The Lady Broncos were led on offense for the second straight match by Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (Sr., Greensboro, NC) with 14 kills on a total of 18 attempts. It is the second consecutive match that Nwokolo has posted a team-high in kills as she had 18 in Fayetteville State’s five-set victory over Winston-Salem State in Fayetteville on Sept. 10 to open CIAA play.
Nwokolo was one of four Fayetteville State volleyball players with five kills or more in the contest as Joylene Thompson (Jr., Spanish Town, JA) recorded seven kills, Taylor Norris (So., Fayetteville, NC) had five kills and Jessica Hardy (So., Fayetteville, NC) tallied six. JaMisha Jordan (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) led the Lady Broncos serving with 13 service aces, and in digs with seven.
Fayetteville State collected 25 assists as a team against Bowie State, with a total of nine players compiling at least one assist. Molly Farrington (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) led the way with seven assists, while Joi Emanuel (Sr., Charlotte, NC) and Paige Horne (Jr., Southern Pines, NC) had four each.
The Lady Broncos will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 16 as they will play two games on the final day of the CIAA Roundup. Fayetteville State will play Virginia Union at 9 a.m. before wrapping up competition against host Lincoln (PA) at 11 a.m.
