FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State volleyball team will hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday and Sunday as it heads to Lincoln, PA for the first of two CIAA Roundups on its schedule.

The Lady Broncos will face Virginia Union at 1 p.m. and Bowie State at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 before wrapping up play on Sunday, Sept. 16 against Lincoln (PA) at 9 a.m.

These will be the first roundup contests for Fayetteville State on the 2012 season after opening up at home against Claflin and Virginia Union in CIAA play. The Lady Broncos are currently 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in CIAA action, and are led on offense by Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (Sr., Greensboro, NC) with 32 kills on the season after tallying a season-high 18 in the five-set victory over the Rams on Sept. 10. Joylene Thompson (Jr., Spanish Town, JA) has added 20 kills on the season, while Joi Emanuel (Sr., Charlotte, NC) has 14 kills and Jessica Hardy (So., Fayetteville, NC) has tallied 18. Molly Farrington (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) has dished out 49 assists this season, and JaMisha Jordan (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) has recorded a team-high 44 digs.

Virginia Union heads into the weekend with a record of 0-7, and have yet to play a game at home this season. Bowie State currently posts a 0-9 record on the year and is 0-2 in CIAA action, and will be hitting the road for the first time in four games. Lincoln (PA) is 0-3 overall in 2012 and 0-2 in back-to-back CIAA home contests.

The Lady Broncos went 3-0 last season against their three upcoming opponents, and won each match in straight sets. Fayetteville State defeated all three opponents last season by a combined score of 9-0, with all three games taking place away from Fayetteville.

The second, and final, CIAA Roundup this season for Fayetteville State will take place in Fayetteville Sept. 29-30, and will include Elizabeth City State and Chowan.

The Lady Broncos will remain on the road for four consecutive games next week, highlighted by a trip to Charlotte, NC to take on USC-Aiken, Armstrong Atlantic and conference opponent Johnson C. Smith in a tournament hosted by the Golden Bulls. Fayetteville State kicks off its week on Thursday, Sept. 20 with a CIAA matchup at Livingstone College.

The second half of the CIAA Roundup began with great success for the host Fayetteville State Lady Broncos, who improved to 6-1 overall and in the league standings following a straight-set victory over Lincoln (PA) in the first match on the first day of the two=day event.
