HAMPTON, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Volleyball Coaches Association selected four student-athletes from the Fayetteville State to the 2012 All-CIAA Pre-Season Volleyball Team. Joi Emmanuel and JaMisha Jordan were highlighted within the group as conference statistical leaders as a Middle Hitter/Blocker and Setter, respectfully. Decausha McLean and Ifeyinwa Nwokolo were also named as honorees.
Joi Emmanuel (6-2, Charlotte, NC) and Infeyinwa Nwokolo (6-0, Utility, Greensboro, NC) will be major factors leading the Lady Broncos in the 2012 season. Emmanuel led the conference in blocks (100) and in hitting percentage (.368) last season. She also ranked third in aces per set (0.78) within the NCAA Division II. Nwokolo ranked fourth within the CIAA in hitting percentage (.271).
"They have taken huge leadership roles," commented fourth-year head coach Reeshemah Johnson on the duo taking charge within preseason camp. "They are much more vocal amongst their teammates."
Rising juniors JaMisha Jordan and Decausha McLean were also honored to the pre-season squad. Jordan, a 5-6 setter from Fayetteville, NC, ranks among the top in the CIAA for assists with more than eight per game. JaMisha ranks sixth in the Division II in aces per set with 0.67. McLean is a 5-2 libero from Laurinburg, NC. She ranks fifth in the conference in digs with an average of 3.22 per set.
Fayetteville State ranked amongst the top three in five out of seven statistical categories in the conference. The Lady Broncos led all in service aces per set (2.99) and was second in hitting percentage and blocks and third in kills and assists.
The Lady Broncos will host its season-opener on September 5th when Claflin University visits Capel Arena for a 6pm match-up. Conference play will begin on the 10th when divisional rival Winston-Salem State rolls into Fayetteville.
