Aug. 10, 2017

FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- The Fayetteville State University women’s volleyball program has been predicted to finish third (3rd) in its 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association season and second (2nd) in the Southern Division by the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association. Senior Jayde Jacobs was named to the 2017 Preseason All-CIAA Team.

Jacobs, a native of Fayetteville and alumna of Pine Forest High School, will serve as a leader in the Broncos upcoming season. Jacobs finished the 2016 season as an All-Conference honoree and All-Tournament Team member. She finished second on the team with 236 kills from 468 total attacks, had a team-high 80 blocks and recorded 55 digs, and 13 service aces.

Fayetteville State finished last season as the 2016 CIAA Runner-up with a 19-8 (70.4%) overall record and a 12-4 (75%) divisional standing.

Head Coach Reeshemah Johnson, a 1998 graduate of Fayetteville State, will enter her ninth season at the helm of the Broncos with 11 returning student-athletes and nine newcomers. With five championship appearances (2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2016) and two titles (2012 and 2013), the predicted order by fellow coaches will not alter her preparations for the upcoming season.

Arlicia Ortiz (an outside hitter from Spanaway, WA) will join Jacobs as two of three seniors returning for FSU. Ortiz was also a member of the 2016 All-Tournament and All-CIAA Teams. Nakia McKinnie, the 2016 CIAA Rookie of the Year as a setter, will also return from Niceville, FL for her sophomore season.

Fayetteville State will open play on Wednesday, September 6th in Columbia, SC against Benedict College. The Broncos will host Claflin University for its home-opener on Wednesday, September 13th in Capel Arena at 6 p.m. for Military Appreciation.
