HAMPTON, VA – The Fayetteville State volleyball team has earned a berth into the CIAA Volleyball Championship semi-finals with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-13, 23-25, 25-21) victory over the Winston-Salem State Rams in its second match of pool play at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.
The Lady Broncos improve 25-5 overall with the victory while the Rams fall to 10-23 on the season.
FSU received 29 of its 49 total kills from the senior duo of Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (Sr., Greensboro, NC) and Joi Emanuel (Sr., Charlotte, NC). Nwokolo led Fayetteville State offensively for the second straight match with a game-high 15 kills and Emanuel added 14. Paige Horne (Jr., Southern Pines, NC) dished out a team-best 22 assists while Molly Farrington contributed 18. The Lady Broncos had three players record double-digit digs in JaMisha Jordan (Jr., Fayetteville, NC), Nikita Cheadle (Jr., Hope Mills, NC) and Decausha McLean (Jr., Laurinburg, NC). Jordan finished with a team-high 16 digs, and Cheadle and McLean had 13 and 11, respectively.
Olivia Owens had 10 kills for Winston-Salem State and Kayla Brass added 28 assists. Katelyn Sigala finished with 18 digs.
Fayetteville State will face the Virginia State Trojans at 7 p.m. in its final match of pool play.
