RALEIGH, NC - The Fayetteville State volleyball team wrapped up the regular season undefeated in conference play with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-12) victory over the Saint Augustine's Falcons. Joylene Thompson (Jr., Spanish Town, JA) had a team-high eight kills for the Lady Broncos as they finished their best season under fourth-year Head Coach Reeshemah Johnson. FSU is now 23-5 overall, 16-0 in the CIAA, and 10-0 in the Southern Division. The Falcons fall to 6-21 on the season, 6-10 in the conference and 3-7 within the division.
Thompson's eight kills paced the Lady Bronco attack as they had 35 kills on 92 attempts for a .239 hitting percentage. Joi Emanuel (Sr., Charlotte, NC) finished the match with seven kills and Taylor Norris (So., Fayetteville, NC) added six. Paige Horne (Jr., Southern Pines, NC) and Molly Farrington (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) combined for 23 of the team's 28 assists in the contest as Horne finished with a team-best 13 and Farrington 10. JaMisha Jordan (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) had 17 digs to finish the regular season with double-digit digs in 17 consecutive matches.
Fayetteville State's defense held the Falcons to just 19 kills as a team on 104 attempts as Victoria Davis had a team-high five kills. Saint Augustine's committed 27 attack errors and finished with a -.077 hitting percentage. The Lady Broncos took advantage of eight service aces, led by Emanuel's five, and seven team blocks.
The Lady Broncos will now participate in the 2012 CIAA Volleyball Championship in Hampton, VA. The event will take place Nov. 16-18 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. For more information on the Volleyball Championships, visit www.theciaa.com
