FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Fayetteville State (12-7 Overall, 10-4 CIAA, 6-2 Division) captured a three-set sweep over St. Augustine's (8-14, 8-7, 5-4) during its "Ball-in-Pink" volleyball match in Capel Arena. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, the Lady Broncos wore pink items within its uniform and dedicated the game to several survivors. FSU won the three sets 25-21, 25-20 and 25-19.
Members of the FSU cross country, women's softball, men's basketball, and students organized a symbolic walk for cancer on the second level concourse during the game. More than 30 individuals participated in the march.
Joylene Thompson (senior - Spanish Town, JA) and Samira Luis (freshman - Willemstad, Curacao) led the way for the Lady Broncos with eight kills each. Luis accumulated 27 total attacks while Thompson had 15. DaQuondra Cuthbertson (senior - Spencer, NC) tallied six kills and 16 attacks. Nikita Cheadle (junior - Fayetteville, NC) had 14 assists while JaMisha Jordan (senior - Fayetteville, NC) had 13 digs.
Victoria Davis (senior - Winston-Salem, NC) led the effort for the Lady Falcons eight kills and 31 attacks.
Fayetteville State will host Benedict on Saturday, November 2 in Capel Arena at 2:00 pm.
