MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Mount Olive freshman Carly White posted a match-high 13 kills, including the final two of the match, as the Trojans outlasted Fayetteville State, 25-11, 20-25, 25-17, 20-25, 16-14, in the Mount Olive College Women's Volleyball Classic Saturday afternoon in Kornegay Arena.
Erika Conner added 12 kills and a team-high nine digs, Ashlee Reuter chipped in 10 kills and three blocks, and Feliz Ramirez contributed six service aces and a match-high 15 digs for the Trojans.
Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (So., Greensboro, NC) had a team-high 12 kills and three blocks in for Fayetteville State (11-7). Samantha Meeks (Sr., Laurinburg, NC)added 11 kills and seven digs, and JaMisha Jordan (Fr., Fayetteville, NC) tossed in four aces and a team-high 12 digs.
Mount Olive jumped out to leads of 4-0 and 6-1 in the decisive fifth set behind kills from Reuter and Conner. Fayetteville State closed to within a point at 8-7, but consecutive kills by Lauren Lee gave the Trojans a three-point lead again
The Broncos tied the match at 11-all following consecutive aces by Jordan, and the two teams traded side outs until the match reached 14-all. White then delivered consecutive kills off assists from Destiny Ma'ave-Kuewa to end both the contest and a 10-match losing streak by the Trojans.
FSU lost its Friday match in the Classic, falling in straight sets to Armstrong Atlantic State. Nwokolo had seven kills and seven blocks in that match while Joi Emanuel added three kills and six blocks.
