Final Stats
MOUNT OLIVE, NC – The Fayetteville State volleyball team dropped both of its contests on Saturday to the Pfeiffer Falcons and Armstrong Atlantic Pirates at the Kornegay Arena on the final day of the Mount Olive College Classic. Joylene Thompson (Jr., Spanish Town, JA) led the Lady Broncos with nine kills against Pfeiffer, while Taylor Norris (So., Fayetteville, NC) and Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (Sr., Greensboro, NC) had six apiece in the Armstrong Atlantic game.
FSU fell to the Falcons 3-1 (26-28, 25-9, 14-25, 19-25) and 3-0 against Armstrong Atlantic (13-25, 19-25, 13-25).
Fayetteville State’s record is now 18-5 on the season, while the Falcons improve to 6-15 and the Pirates are 22-4 with their victories. FSU will take the next eight days off before returning to CIAA Southern Division competition on Monday, Oct. 29 when it hosts the Shaw Bears at 6 p.m.
Thompson picked up her second straight nine kill performance against Pfeiffer while Nwokolo, Norris and Joi Emanuel (Sr., Charlotte, NC) had seven each. Molly Farrington (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) and Paige Horne (Jr., Southern Pines, NC) combined for 34 assists as Farrington dished out 18 and Horne 16. JaMisha Jordan (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) recorded a team-high 25 digs and five service aces in the match. Nwokolo finished with five block assists.
Norris and Nwokolo were the only two Lady Broncos with at least five kills in the matchup with Armstrong Atlantic. Jessica Hardy (So., Fayetteville, NC) had a season-high 11 assists while Farrington tallied eight. Jordan led the FSU defense with 15 digs as she was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Fayetteville State posted 40 kills as a team against the Falcons and followed with 22 against the Pirates.
