MOUNT OLIVE, NC – Joylene Thompson (Jr., Spanish Town, JA) recorded a team-high nine kills on Friday evening as the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos swept the Mount Olive Trojans 3-0 at Kornegay Arena during day one of the Mount Olive College Classic. FSU defeated Mount Olive by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-22.
The Lady Broncos improve to 18-3 overall with the victory, while the Trojans fall to 8-14. FSU completes the season sweep over Mount Olive as it won the first meeting 3-0 in Fayetteville on Oct. 2.
Thompson helped pace a Fayetteville State attack that also saw Shavon Shaw (Fr., Bethel, NC) record seven kills. Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (Sr., Greensboro, NC) also contributed five kills. Molly Farrington (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) dished out 13 assists and Paige Horne (Jr., Southern Pines, NC) added 10. JaMisha Jordan (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) finished the match with a team-leading 13 digs. She now has double-digit digs in 10 consecutive matches and a total of 15 on the season.
The Lady Broncos finished the match with 31 kills on 70 attempts while holding the Trojans to 27 on 89 attempts. FSU also took advantage with its serve tallying 10 service aces and forcing Mount Olive into 10 return errors. Farrington led the team with four service aces. Joi Emanuel’s (Sr., Charlotte, NC) four assisted blocks led Fayetteville State as it had two solo and 10 assisted in the match.
The Lady Broncos wrap up play in the Mount Olive College Classic on Saturday, Oct. 29 with a doubleheader. FSU will face the Pfeiffer Falcons at 9 a.m. and the Armstrong Atlantic Pirates in a 1 p.m. matchup.
