Chynna Hunt Leads FSU with 11 Kills in Broncos 3-1 Win Over JCSU

Charlotte, NC – Fayetteville State traveled to Charlotte, NC and defeated Johnson C. Smith 3-1 in a CIAA Southern Division matchup. FSU won the first set 25-20 and had a battle in the second with a 28-26 win. JCSU edged the Broncos in the third set 25-22 but Fayetteville State boarded the bus with a 14-4 overall record, 10-1 conference and 4-1 divisional record after winning the fourth set 25-17.

Chynna Hunt (Summerville, SC) led the match with 11 kills. Nia Bell (Elizabeth City, NC) followed with ten (10) and three (3) service aces. Bojo Jada (Jamestown, NC) had a good night on offense and defense. She finished with eight (8) kills and nine (9) blocks. Nakia McKinnie (Niceville, FL) and Ziyanna Canty (Charlotte, NC) finished with 14 assists each.

Johnson C. Smith (10-5, 7-4 in CIAA play, and 2-3 in the Division) managed an early 9-3 lead in the second set before the Broncos knotted the score at 10-all. The score would volley back-and-forth until the eight (8th) tie of the game, which was a 25-25 game.

After a block JCSU’s Maya Washington and Gorana Bogdanovic and a one-point lead, the Golden Bulls would surrender the second set 28-26 with two (2) errors and a blocked attack.

JCSU would lead by as many as six points (16-10) but a Bronco rally would cut the cushion to 18-16. The Golden Bulls would not surrender this lead, winning 25-22 and narrowing the FSU lead to 2-1.

After a 15-15 tie in the fourth set, the Broncos went on a 10-2 run to win out the set and match 25-17.

JCSU had two players with double-digit kills, as Anteesha Smoots and Gorana Bogdanovic each had ten (10).


 

 

Fayetteville State will play host to Winston-Salem State in a crucial Southern Division matchup on Monday night in Capel Arena. The 6 pm game will also be a prelude to the basketball teams’ Bronco Frenzy. FSU, in conjunction with the Rams, will bring awareness to Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
