FSU Broncos Remain Unbeaten in CIAA Volleyball Roundup Action

Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville State University women's volleyball team has won five-straight matches since this past Monday. The Broncos swept Livingstone last Monday (September 25th) 3-0 and the Braves of UNC Pembroke on Thursday (September 28th) by the same score. This weekend, in the second portion of the CIAA Round-up, FSU defeated Virginia Union and Lincoln (Pa.) 3-0 and cross-conference rival Chowan, 3-1.

Fayetteville State improves to 11-6 overall, 7-1 in conference play, and 1-1 in divisional matches.

Fayetteville State traveled to Lincoln, Pa. for the final round of the CIAA Volleyball roundup, with two matches on Saturday and one on Sunday. In the first match of the three-game round-up, FSU defeated the Virginia Union Panthers 25-20, 25-10, and 25-21.

The first set witnessed nine (9) score ties and four (4) lead changes. On the ninth tie, VUU evened the set at 20 but a 5-0 run by the Broncos would seal the set. FSU breezed through the second set and held off a Panther comeback effort in the third.

Nia Bell and Arlicia Ortiz finished with nine (9) kills. Jayde Jacobs and Raven Ousley-Brownand six (6) kills each.

In the second match, Ortiz led the Broncos to a three (3) set victory over host Lincoln (Pa.) with a season-high 15 kills. At the 12-12 mark of the set, Jessica Ware scored a service ace that would lead to a 7-0 run by the Broncos. FSU finished the set with a 25-15 ten-point victory. Fayetteville State won the following two sets 25-9 and 25-15.


 

 

Fayetteville State faces a tough battle every time it lines up against Chowan. This Sunday, the Broncos won a face-off against the Hawks, 3-1.

After winning the first set 25-19, FSU let the second set get away from them by the score of 25-21. The Broncos trailed 20-13 before its final timeout and managed a 4-1 run to close within four (17-21). After a Hawks' timeout, FSU climbed within three points (20-23) but came up short in its comeback effort.

Fayetteville State jumped to an early 12-5 lead in the third set but allowed the Hawks back in the game with a 15-15 score. FSU advanced to a 6-2 run (20-16) and maintained the advantage for a 25-21 win.

The momentum remained in favor of the Broncos as FSU finished off Chowan with a 15-2 and a 25-11 set.

Jayde Jacobs led FSU with 10 kills and Nia Bell finished with nine (9). Nakia McKinnie had 22 assists.

Fayetteville State will travel to Saint Augustine's on Thursday, October 5th before playing a home make-up match against Claflin on Friday, October 6th. On Monday, October 9th, the Broncos will host defending CIAA Champions Shaw University. Both home matches will begin at 6 p.m.
