Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville State University women's volleyball team has won five-straight matches since this past Monday. The Broncos swept Livingstone last Monday (September 25th) 3-0 and the Braves of UNC Pembroke on Thursday (September 28th) by the same score. This weekend, in the second portion of the CIAA Round-up, FSU defeated Virginia Union and Lincoln (Pa.) 3-0 and cross-conference rival Chowan, 3-1.

Fayetteville State improves to 11-6 overall, 7-1 in conference play, and 1-1 in divisional matches.

This past Thursday, the Broncos traveled I-95 South to sweep UNC Pembroke, 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-11). The Braves gave a tough battle in the first set with ten (10) score-ties and two (2) lead changes. After a 23-21 lead by UNCP, Arlicia Ortiz smashed a kill that would set the Broncos up for a winning run.

With Jessica Ware (Fayetteville, NC) serving, Raven Ousley-Brown (St. Paul, MN) blocked two Tyler Fitzpatrick attacks for a 24-23 lead. The game-winning point was when Aquia Jones attacked the net and was blocked by Ortiz and Jacobs.

Jayde Jacobs served up four (4) aces in the second set for a 7-0 run and a 21-7 lead and would end the set with one of her four (4) kills in the 25-13 win.


 

 

Nia Bell (Elizabeth City, NC), Ousley-Brown, and Ortiz finished with seven (7) kills. Jacobs had five (5) kills and eight (8) blocks with support from Jada, who had five (5) kills and blocks.
