FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State volleyball team remains unbeaten in CIAA play as it defeated Saint Augustine’s 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-12) on Tuesday evening at Felton J. Capel Arena.

The Lady Broncos improve to 9-2 on the season and 7-0 in conference play, while the Lady Falcons fall to 4-10 overall and 4-1 in CIAA action.

Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (Sr., Greensboro, NC) paced Fayetteville State’s offensive attack against Saint Augustine’s with nine kills, while Joylene Thompson (Jr., Spanish Town, JA) contributed seven kills and 12 digs. The Lady Broncos had three players with five or more assists led by Molly Farrington (Jr., Fayetteville, NC), who had 11. Fayetteville State trailed just once in the three combined sets, which came at the 5-4 mark in the opening set. After JaMisha Jordan (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) tied the first set at 5-5, the Lady Broncos went on a 20-11 run to take the first set over the Lady Falcons 25-16. Saint Augustine’s made it 9-7 after an attack error by Taylor Norris (So., Fayetteville, NC), but that would be as close as it got from that point on.

The second set saw Fayetteville State jump out to a 7-2 lead before the Lady Falcons trimmed their deficit to 10-8. The Lady Broncos responded by finishing out on a 15-5 run to take the second set 25-13.

The third, and final, set played out similar to the second set as Fayetteville State started out with a 5-2 lead before Saint Augustine’s picked up back-to-back points to make it 5-4. The Lady Bronco defense then held the Lady Falcons to just eight points the rest of the set as part of a 20-8 run to close out the match. Fayetteville State would take the third set by a score of 25-12.

The Lady Broncos will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 29 as they host a CIAA Mini Roundup at Capel Arena. Fayetteville State faces Elizabeth City State at 1 p.m. and Chowan at 3 p.m. on day one of the Mini Roundup.
