CHARLOTTE, NC – The Fayetteville State Lady Bronco volleyball team snapped a two-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon by defeating Johnson C. Smith 3-0 on the final day of the Johnson C. Smith Invitational.
The Lady Broncos improve to 8-2 on the season and 6-0 in the CIAA, while the Golden Bulls fall to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Jessica Hardy (So., Fayetteville, NC) led the Fayetteville State attack as she tallied a total of nine kills, while Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (Sr., Greensboro, NC) added eight kills and Joi Emanuel (Sr., Charlotte, NC) contributed six kills. All but two players had at least one kill for the Lady Broncos, while the FSU defense recorded four block solos and 14 block assists. Molly Farrington (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) had a team-high nine assists in the contest, and JaMisha Jordan (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) posted six service aces. Jordan finished the match tied with Joylene Thompson (Jr., Spanish Town, JA) for the team-lead in digs with nine each.
LaQwesha Gamble and Gracyn Doctor were the team leaders for Johnson C. Smith with four kills apiece, while Kayla Bazemore had 10 assists. Imeshia Jones posted a team-high five digs for the Golden Bulls, and Doctor had two solo blocks.
Fayetteville State will remain in conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 25 as it hosts Saint Augustine’s at 6 p.m.
