Charlotte, NC - The Fayetteville State University Lady Broncos beat Johnson C. Smith University 3-0 (30-21, 30-16, 30-18) and improved their season record to 5-6 and 2-0 in CIAA action. The win was also the Lady Broncos second consecutive and improve their divisional record to 2-0.
Freshman outside hitter Samantha Meeks (Laurinburg, NC) led the Lady Broncos attack with 11 kills, three service aces and seven digs. Senior middle blocker Cassandra Peterson (Winston-Salem, NC) was right behind Meeks with eight kills, while freshman Chekimbrell Jefferson (Laurel Hill, NC) and Shatia Gidrey (Jacksonville, NC) both had six kills. Jefferson also added five service aces.
Freshman setter Achari Mainor (Antioch, CA) had 32 assists and four service aces. Senior libero Sha'Quana Veney (Richmond, VA) had a team-high 15 digs. She also added five service aces for the match.
"Our players did an excellent job executing; they were very good tactically. These two factors helped us win," said Coach Elorine Hill.
