Several student-athletes honored during the 22nd Annual All-Sports Banquet held inside Capel Arena

Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville State University sophomore tennis player Ines Nieves and junior golfer Ian Milne were recognized as the Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year with the presentation of the annual trophy by the Director of Athletics Dr. Edward McLean. The 22nd Annual All-Sports Banquet was held inside Capel Arena on the campus of Fayetteville State University.

Nieves, a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina and a graduate of Pine Forest Senior High School, was voted as the CIAA Player of the Year, the CIAA Tennis Tournament Most Valuable Player and to the CIAA All-Conference Team. Also included in her long list of accolades is the CIAA singles and doubles champions. Added is her 26-consecutive singles match winning streak and her 15-consecutive conference doubles winning streak.

Ian Milne, is a native of Deland, Florida is the Male Student-Athlete of the Year. His list of accolades stretches across many golf courses. He was the PGA National Minority Individual Collegiate Golf Champion, Division II, finished second in the National Black College Alumni, Division II Hall Fame Tournament, second at the Savannah State University's Tigers Fall Invitational and 10th at the Coker College Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. He was recognized by the Golf Association of America (GCAA) by naming him an honorary member of PING All-American Team

For the second-consecutive year, Hazael Andrew received the Male Student-Athlete with the Highest Cumulative Grade Point Average and the Chancellor's Award of Merit for academic excellence and community activism. Senior Shayla Roberts receive the Chancellor's Award of Merit, and sophomore tennis player Contessa Sanchez received the Female Student-Athlete with the Highest Cumulative Grade Point Average.

The teams' academic winners were Hazael Andrew (men's basketball), Shayla Roberts (women's basketball) Jennifer Montgomery (bowling) Cherish Washington (cheerleaders), Harvey Morrow (men's cross country), Chelsea Jeter (women's cross country), Charlie Lawrence III (football), Jeremy Ringled (golf), Ariel McNair (softball), Cindra Gordon (sports information), Contessa Sanchez (tennis), Jeffery Cox (men's track and field), and Sha' Quana Veney (volleyball).

The most valuable players awards went to Jesse Fells (men's basketball), Chelsea Jeter (women's basketball), Jessica Donnelly (bowling), Cortelia Jefferson (cheerleaders), Geron Harper, (football - defense), Perry Carlton III (football - offense), Ian Milne (golf), Ariel McNair (softball), Cindra Gordon (sports information), Ines Nieves (tennis) Bobby Wilder (track and field), Richard Watkins III (SAAC), and Tammy McFadden (volleyball).
