LADY BRONCOS TENNIS FALLS TO CHOWAN 5-0 IN THE 2017 CIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Bowie, MD – The Fayetteville State University women’s tennis team suffered a 5-0 loss to Chowan University on Thursday, April 20th in the quarterfinals of the CIAA Championships. FSU finishes the season at 3-11 overall and 3-10 in the CIAA.

The Lady Broncos entered the tournament as the eighth seed against the top seeded Hawks. Sophomore Staisha Cain (Wilson, NC) and senior Selena Cox (Wilmington, NC) teamed up for number one doubles. The freshmen duo of Tajah Clark (Clayton, NC) and Brittany Doss (Angier, NC) took on Angelique Gouin and Cynthia Carrier in the number two doubles flight.

Chowan won the first two doubles matches by scores of 8-0 in both. Anna Makhneva and Roxana Daneshjoo won the third doubles match by default.

FSU suffered losses in number four and six singles. Clark dropped both sets (6-0, 6-0) to Gouin at the four spot. Franca Pacelli won by default in the sixth singles position. Chowan advanced in the tournament with a 5-0 victory.

Fayetteville State returned to the postseason for the first time since the 2015 season. Head coach Erika Gee Harris could potentially have five letterwinners on next year’s roster.
