FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville State Lady Broncos appear ready for the CIAA Tournament.
Already qualified for this week's eight-team tournament, Fayetteville State capped its regular season with a dominating 6-3 win over Southern Division foe St. Augustine's on Tuesday in a match that had been rescheduled after inclement weather.
Three Lady Broncos players notched two wins on the day, with top-seeded player Varice Love (So., Fayetteville, N.C.) drubbing Minyan Murphy 8-0 in singles before teaming up with Brittney Williams (So., Greensboro, N.C.) to dispatch Murphy and Kenishea Donaldson 8-0 in doubles.
Fayetteville State's Samantha Ledbetter (Fr., Fayetteville, N.C.) clubbed Roxanne Smith 8-0 before joining M'Waka Thomas for an 8-0 doubles defeat of Smith and Tiana Morris.
Williams won her singles match 8-1 over Smith.
The Lady Broncos (7-14, 7-9) will open CIAA Tournament play as the league's No. 7 seed. Fayetteville State will take on second-seeded Winston-Salem State at 11 a.m. on the campus of Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va.
