FAYETTEVILLE STATE WOMEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS LIVINGSTONE 7-1 IN DIVISION PLAY

Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State University women’s tennis team beat Livingstone College 7-1 in CIAA Southern Division competition on Saturday, April 1st at the Capel Tennis Complex. FSU improves to 2-7 overall and in the conference.

The combination of sophomore Staisha Cain (Wilson, NC) and senior Selena Cox (Wilmington, NC) were victorious 8-4 over Hadiyah Shaheer and Nanayakka Crishanthi in number one doubles. Senior Vanaysha Graham (Tabor City, NC) and freshman Brittany Doss (Angier, NC) recorded an 8-2 win over Tiffani Holland and Mariah Williams in the second doubles flight. Junior Asia Potts (Rock Hill, SC) and freshman Tajah Clark (Clayton, NC) picked up a win by forfeit in the third doubles match.

In singles competition, FSU earned victories in singles flights two through five. Shaheer secured the only match point for Livingstone with a 6-4, 6-3 win in number one singles. The Lady Blue Bears only had five competitors and suffered an automatic forfeit in number six singles.

Cox, Graham, sophomore Destiney Jordan (Manhattan, NY), Clark claimed wins in singles two through five, respectively.

The Lady Broncos return to action at home on Tuesday, April 11th against divisional rival Shaw University. Match play is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. from the Capel Tennis Complex.
