RALEIGH, NC – The Fayetteville State women’s tennis team suffered identical 4-3 defeats to the Saint Augustine’s Lady Falcons on Monday afternoon in CIAA action at Lions Park. The Lady Broncos received two wins apiece in singles play from Brittney Williams (Jr., Greensboro, NC) and Taylor Norris (So., Grand Island, NE). Williams also teamed up with Samantha Ledbetter (So., Fayetteville, NC) for a win in doubles competition.

In the first match of the day, the teams split two doubles matches and went into singles action tied 1-1. Ledbetter and Williams, playing No. 1 doubles, defeated Minyan Murphy and Tiana Morris in convincing fashion 8-2. Williams followed in singles competition at the No. 2 position by defeating Kenishea Donaldson in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Norris won her No. 3 singles match in straight sets over Morris 6-2, 7-5.

Saint Augustine’s opened match two by winning both doubles matchups to take a quick 2-0 lead. The combination of Williams and Norris continued their impressive play in singles action. Williams, who increased her winning streak to four matches, captured her No. 2 singles match 8-2 over Donaldson; while Norris won at No. 3 singles 8-5 over Morris. Laura Worriax (So., Mamers, NC) also picked up a point for FSU winning her No. 5 singles match against Romana Charlery 8-3.

Fayetteville State will return to the courts on Saturday, Apr. 6 when it travels to face UNC Pembroke at 1 p.m.
