Murfreesboro, NC – The Fayetteville State University women’s tennis team suffered 9-0 losses to Virginia State University (March 25) and Chowan University (March 26) during the CIAA Roundup hosted by Chowan at the Rose Family Tennis Complex. FSU moves to 1-7 overall and in the CIAA standings.

The Lady Broncos dropped all three doubles matches against Virginia State. Sophomore Staisha Cain (Wilson, NC) and senior Selena Cox (Wilmington, NC) paired together in number one singles, while senior Vanaysha Graham (Tabor City, NC) and sophomore Destiney Jordan (Manhattan, NY) paired together in number two singles. Both pairs lost their doubles match 8-1.

Freshman Brittany Doss (Angier, NC) and freshman Tajah Clark (Clayton, NC) fell 8-3 in the number three doubles spot to Felicia Tucker and Charde Washington.

Cain and Graham played in number one and number three singles, respectively. Both suffered match losses by the score of 6-0, 6-2. The remaining four singles matches were all losses by a score of 6-0, 6-0.

On day two against the hosting Hawks of Chowan, Cain and Cox fell 8-2 in the number one double match. Graham and Doss paired together in number two singles, while junior Asia Potts (Rock Hill, SC) and Clark were the number three doubles duo. Both duo dropped their doubles match 8-0.

Chowan managed to sweep all six singles competitions for a 9-0 match win.



Fayetteville State returns to the courts on Thursday, March 30th in a divisional rematch against Winston-Salem State University. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the WSSU Tennis Courts in Winston-Salem, NC.
