FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State Lady Broncos picked up a 7-2 victory over the Livingstone College Lady Blue Bears on Wednesday afternoon in CIAA women’s tennis action at Mazarick Park. The Lady Broncos captured all three doubles matches and followed with four wins in singles play against Livingstone.
The Lady Broncos won all three of their doubles matches to quickly to go ahead of the Blue Bears 3-0. The No. 1 doubles combination of Samantha Ledbetter (So., Fayetteville, NC) and Brittney Williams (Jr., Greensboro, NC) were winning 1-0 in their match before Livingstone retired. At No. 2 doubles, Octavia Wynn (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) and Taylor Norris (So., Grand Island, NE) held off Shannon Davis and Miracle Wigfall for an 8-6 win. Joylene Thompson (Jr., Spanish Town, JA) and Laura Worriax (So., Mamers, NC) won their No. 3 doubles match by default.
In the singles portion of the competition, Fayetteville State won two matches by default at the No. 1 and No. 6 positions. Williams and Thompson easily dispatched their opponents in straight sets; as Williams was victorious over Davis 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles while Thompson, playing No. 5 singles, defeated Samiydah Kearney 6-0, 6-0. Norris and Natalia Felix had to go all the way to a third set to determine the winner in their No. 3 singles match. Norris won the first set 6-1 but Felix came back to win set two 6-4 and a third set tiebreaker 10-3.
FSU returns to action on Monday, Apr. 1 when it travels to face Saint Augustine’s at 1 p.m.
