March 17, 2007 The Lady Broncos tasted a bit of revenge against Shaw University by beating the defending champions 9-0 at Fayetteville State University's Tennis Court. Last year, the Lady Bears ended FSU's dominance of the CIAA Tennis Championship when they pulled the conference upset to win their first title. Benefiting from the doubles sweep, the Lady Broncos rolled past Shaw to capture the singles' flights and secured the match victories while improving their record to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in CIAA action. The singles match of the evening and highlight of the contest was FSU's Jacquelyn Artis going against Shaw's Xania Steele. The visiting player earned the first set by beating Artis 6-4. Not to be outdone, Artis put down Steele in the second set 6-4. The final set, and tie breaker, went to Artis by the score 10-8. Ines Nieves beat Shaw's Monique Lawson in the number one singles flight 6-0 and 6-1 and extended her winning streak to 11. The loss dropped Shaw to 1-5 overall and 1-3 CIAA. Doubles Results 1.
