MURFREESBORO, NC – The Fayetteville State women’s tennis team fell to the Chowan Hawks on Sunday morning 5-0 during the final day of the CIAA Northern Round-Up at the Hawks Tennis Complex. The contest was played as the first to five after having to be rescheduled on Saturday. The Lady Broncos fall to 0-9 on the season and 0-7 in conference play.
Chowan swept the doubles portion of the competition after winning all three matches with one coming by default. Samantha Ledbetter and Taylor Norris were defeated in their No. 1 doubles match to Straffai Cleveland and Breanne Johnson 8-0. Joylene Thompson and Octavia Wynn suffered an 8-0 defeat playing at No. 2 doubles to Brittany Moser and Holly Egnor. The Hawks’ Jessica De Backre and Natalya Kamenshchikova earned the default victory in the No. 3 doubles contest.
In singles play Chowan captured two singles matches, with one coming by default, to earn the overall victory. De Backre was victorious over Laura Worriax in the No. 5 singles match 8-0. Moser won at No. 6 singles by default.
Fayetteville State will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 23 when it travels to face Winston-Salem State at 10 a.m.
