FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State women’s tennis team suffered a 9-0 defeat to the Johnson C. Smith Lady Golden Bulls on Monday afternoon at Mazarick Park. The Lady Broncos stepped back into conference play after hosting back-to-back non-conference matchups in Fayetteville. FSU falls to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play; while Johnson C. Smith improves to 4-11 on the season and 4-3 in league action.
The Lady Golden Bulls opened the contest by capturing all three doubles matches with one coming by default. In No. 1 doubles, Samantha Ledbetter and Taylor Norris fell to Rankin Anderson and Khadijha Battle 8-0. Octavia Wynn and Joylene Thompson were defeated in their No. 2 doubles match by Keiana Love and Samantha Barnes 8-0.
Johnson C. Smith went into singles competition and won all six matches with one coming by default. Ledbetter went back-and forth in her No. 1 singles match against Anderson but was beaten 6-1, 6-3. Norris suffered a 6-0, 6-0 loss at No. 2 singles and Wynn dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision in the No. 3 singles match. Thompson fell in the No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-0 and Tann was defeated 6-0, 6-0 playing at No. 5 singles.
The Lady Broncos will return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 13 when it hosts Columbia in a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m.
