Columbia, SC - The Lady Tigers of Benedict College hosted the Fayetteville State Bronco's Tuesday and showed great focus in their season opening Div II match by stopping the CIAA conference finalist 8-1. In the doubles at #1 DeAndra Reasonover and Paola Lopez won 8-5. Samantha McGill and Shani Jones won at 8-5 in their first play at the #2 position and Lauren Smith and Ayana Martin showed their strength at #3 as they powered their way to an 8-0 victory. In the individual matches the Lady Tigers played very tough. Paola Lopez and Lauren Smith cruised to wins at the #2 and #3 positions 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-1 respectably. Shani Jones at #5 made a statement with a 6-0,6-0 win and at the #4 and #6 positions Ayana Martin had had to make tougher adjustments but steadied their games to pull out 7-6(7-3), 6-1 and 6-1,6-4 victories. At the #1 position another great match was played as 2008 SIAC 1st Team All Conference and Freshman of the Year DeAndra Reasonover fell to two-time CIAA Player of the Year senior Inez Nieves 6-2, 6-4 which exhibited show time shot selection and power by two of the better all-around HBCU players.
