FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State women’s tennis team suffered a 9-0 defeat in its home opener to the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams on Thursday afternoon at Mazarick Park. Samantha Ledbetter fought hard in her No. 1 singles match but was unable to come away with the victory falling 7-5, 6-2.
The Lady Rams (1-3, 1-1 CIAA) won doubles over FSU with two 8-0 victories and one by default which carried that momentum into singles play. WSSU won four singles match by 6-0, 6-0 scores and one by default. Ledbetter, despite suffering the loss, battled Sloane Holmes in the first set but loss 7-5. Holmes then completed the two-set victory with a 6-2 score in the second set.
Fayetteville State will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 23 when it travels to Salisbury, NC to face the Livingstone College Lady Blue Bears. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
