Gerard Winfrey took over the reins of the Fayetteville State women's tennis program in the winter of 2013. The FSU alum hopes to take the Lady Broncos program to new heights.
Winfrey, a Hope Mills native, earned his Bachelor's of Arts degree in sociology from Fayetteville State in 1973. While an undergrad, Winfrey played for the Broncos' men's tennis team from 1969-1973.
Winfrey, a former professor at FSU, holds a M.S. in sociology from North Carolina State University.
This will be Winfrey's first year coaching tennis. He has experience as a volunteer assistant basketball coach at the high school level. His goals for this year include a return to postseason play.
"Our main goal at this point is to be invited to the CIAA championships,"he said. "If we do well and get invited to the tournament, then our goal is to win the tournament or keep other teams from winning."
