FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Fayetteville State utility player Spencer Embler was selected on Thursday afternoon to the 2013 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) Softball College Division Second Team All-State. The 2013 NCCSIA Softball All-State Teams for the College Division is made up of twenty-three students representing 13 different North Carolina Universities and Colleges.
Embler was a CIAA First Team All-Conference member in her first season with the Lady Broncos. The transfer from Florence-Darlington Tech served primarily as a first baseman and starting pitcher. Embler was one of four players to start in all 43 games; including 21 appearances and 18 starts on the mound. The junior hit a team-best .376 (47-for-125) with two home runs and 31 RBI. She tallied a 6-10 record and 4.06 ERA pitching with 12 complete games in 113.0 innings of work.
The Thomasville, NC native posted 12 multi-hit and nine multi-RBI games on the season. Embler reached base in a season-best ten consecutive games and posted a five-game hitting streak. At the plate, she recorded a season-best four hits in a game twice and had four RBI three times. Embler was named CIAA Pitcher of the Week after compiling four straight scoreless appearances covering 21.0 innings. She struck out a season-high ten batters in an 8-0 win over Bowie State en route to her first complete game of the season.
Embler is one of six players from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) to be named to the NCCSIA Softball All-State Teams for the College Division. Jo’Landa White (Saint Augustine’s), Leigh Ward (Chowan) and Daja White (Saint Augustine’s) were recognized on the All-State First Team; while Embler was joined on the All-State Second Team by Alora Lincoln (Chowan) and Liz Hipple (Chowan).
NCAA Division II Southeast Regional finalist Lenoir-Rhyne placed three students on the First Team. St. Augustine’s and UNC Pembroke both had two First-Team honorees. Guilford, Mount Olive, Catawba and Wingate each put one student on the First Team.
Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
Founded in 2002, the NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools.
The NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
