PETERSBURG, VA – Fayetteville State shortstop Maya Washington (Jr., Red Springs, NC) was named to the CIAA Softball All-Tournament Team, it was announced on Saturday afternoon following the conference’s championship game held at Virginia State University. Washington tied for the team-lead in hitting with a .500 average after starting in all three games the Lady Broncos played this week.
The transfer from Shaw University posted five hits in ten at-bats for the Lady Broncos and tied for the team-lead in runs scored with two. She posted one of the team’s three doubles and was second with six total bases. Washington tallied a .600 slugging percentage and .500 on-base clip.
She went 3-for-4 at the plate in a 9-3 victory over the Lincoln (PA) Lady Lions on Apr. 18. Washington was one of three FSU players with three hits in the contest; while also collecting one double and two runs scored. She also had one hit each in two games against the Virginia State Lady Trojans. Defensively, Washington had five putouts and one assist.
Washington finished the 2013 season second on the team in hitting with a .354 (45-for-127) average and 61 total bases. She was one of four Lady Broncos to start in all 43 games; and ranked third in runs batted in with 19. Washington stole seven bases in 12 attempts and led the team with 29 runs scored. Her 12 doubles also ranked first on the squad and tied for fourth in the conference.
Chowan’s Alora Lincoln was named the 2013 CIAA Tournament Most Valuable Player.
