HAMPTON, VA – Fayetteville State catcher Sierra Henderson-Holmes (So., Olivia, NC) has been named, for the second straight time, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Defensive Player of the Week. Henderson-Holmes tallied 11 putouts and three assists in two games played against the Shaw Lady Bears. Offensively, the catcher recorded two hits and drove in one run.
Henderson-Holmes made her mark behind the plate in the doubleheader split with Shaw on Apr. 6. In game one of the twin billing, she threw out two base runners attempting to steal; while collecting seven putouts. She followed with four putouts and one assist in the game two victory. Henderson-Holmes also went 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored in the second game.
This season, she is fifth on the team in hitting with a .293 average and is one of four players to start in all 40 games for the Lady Broncos. Henderson-Holmes ranks third on the team in runs scored (34) and doubles (6); and fourth in runs batted in (16) and total bases (42). She leads the team with 162 putouts.
Fayetteville State finished the regular season third behind Winston-Salem State and Saint Augustine’s in the CIAA Southern Division with a 6-4 record. FSU recorded its third straight season with ten or more conference victories after going 10-6.
The Lady Broncos will return to action Apr. 18-20 when they travel to Petersburg, VA for the 2013 CIAA Championship at the Petersburg Sports Complex.
