FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State softball team sees its regular season come to an end this weekend when it hosts the Shaw Lady Bears and Saint Augustine’s Lady Falcons in back-to-back doubleheaders at Seabrook Park. The Lady Broncos are set to face Shaw on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.; followed by Saint Augustine’s on Sunday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. FSU will also hold “Senior Day” festivities prior to the games on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Broncos enter the weekend in third place in the CIAA Southern Division standings behind Winston-Salem State and Saint Augustine’s. FSU is 4-2 in divisional play and 8-4 in the conference. Shaw currently sits in fifth place within the division at 0-4 while posting a 7-6 conference mark. Saint Augustine’s is unbeaten in division play at 6-0 and is 10-2 against conference opponents.

Fayetteville State has faced the Lady Bears once this season; which came back on Mar. 22 when it hosted a CIAA Round-Up at Arnette Park. The contest was a non-conference tilt which the Lady Broncos won 5-0 behind the third straight complete game shutout by Spencer Embler (Jr., Thomasville, NC). Maya Washington (Jr., Red Springs, NC) finished the game with a team-high three hits and three RBI; while Ashley Wlezen (Sr., Charlotte, NC) added two hits.

Embler leads FSU both at the plate and on the mound this season. The right-hander is currently hitting .392 with one home run and 24 RBI in 102 plate appearances. She also leads the team with a 4.12 ERA in 15 starts and 10 complete games; while also tying for the team-lead with five wins. Sencerae Locklear (So., Fairmont, NC) has hit a team-best two home runs and is one of four players, along with Embler, hitting over .300 this season. Kristen Bell (Fr., Hubert, NC) also has five wins on the mound and 15 complete games.

Shaw has five players hitting over .300 on the season led by Cortnee Kelly’s .375 clip. Kelly has hit six of the Lady Bears’ 14 home runs and leads the team with 28 RBI. On the mound, Taylor Moore tops the Shaw pitching staff with five wins and Sheniqua Fahie posts a 4.83 ERA.

Hannah Stutts guides the Saint Augustine’s offense with a .527 average; while Daja White has eight home runs and 33 RBI. The Lady Falcons have eight players hitting over .300. Stutts also leads the SAU pitching staff with a 6-4 record and 3.84 ERA in 10 starts.

Prior to Sunday’s games, Fayetteville State will hold “Senior Day” festivities. The Lady Broncos are set to recognize Wlezen and Washington; who will both be playing in their final games at Seabrook Park.
