HAMPTON, VA – Fayetteville State catcher Sierra Henderson-Holmes (So., Olivia, NC) was selected this afternoon as the Defensive Player of the Week by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association for her performance last week on the diamond. Henderson-Holmes finished the week with 24 putouts and six assists from behind the plate while not committing an error. At the plate, she posted a .444 average with a team-best five RBI and ten total bases.
Henderson-Holmes tallied nine putouts in an 8-2 victory over Johnson C. Smith in game one of a doubleheader on Mar. 26; while adding three hits (two doubles) and three runs batted in. She added six putouts and two assists against Salem International on Mar. 28. Henderson-Holmes combined for six putouts this past weekend in a doubleheader at Winston-Salem State; and recorded two assists in game two of the twin billing.
Her .444 (8-of-18) mark at the plate was second-best on the team last week. Henderson-Holmes also tallied one RBI each in the second contest against Johnson C. Smith and game one versus Salem International. She wrapped up her impressive week with two hits in the finale with Winston-Salem State.
Henderson-Holmes currently ranks fifth on the team in hitting with a .295 (31-of-105) average in 36 games started. She has driven in 15 runs to go with six doubles, one triple, a .371 slugging percentage and .347 on-base clip. The catcher is also third in runs scored (20) and fourth in total bases (39).
The Lady Broncos will wrap up their regular season at home this weekend with back-to-back doubleheaders against Shaw and Saint Augustine’s. FSU is scheduled to play at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day.
