HAMPTON, VA - Fayetteville State pitcher/first baseman Spencer Embler (Jr., Thomasville, NC) and Head Softball Coach Miguel Justiniano have received weekly honors this afternoon from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Embler garnered CIAA Pitcher of the Week honors while Justiniano was named CIAA Coach of the Week. The Lady Broncos went 6-3 last week including five straight wins over conference opponents.
Embler made her mark on the mound last week for FSU posting a 4-0 record in six appearances. She did not allow a run in four straight appearances covering a total of 21.0 innings. The two-way player tossed her first complete game shutout of the season in an 8-0 victory over Bowie State; in which she struck out a season-high ten batters. She allowed three hits or less in four consecutive outings. The right-hander leads the Lady Broncos both on the mound and at the plate this season. Embler is tied for the team-lead in wins with four while posting a 4.03 ERA in 15 appearances with 12 starts. She has seven complete games to her credit along with three shutouts. Offensively, Embler is hitting .393 with one home run and 20 RBI. She leads the team in runs batted in, hits (33), doubles (8) and total bases (44).
Coach Justiniano guided Fayetteville State to a 6-3 record last week including a perfect 5-0 mark against conference opponents. The sixth-year head coach has led the Lady Broncos to victories in six of their last seven games and five straight in conference play. Justiniano picked up his 100th career victory as a coach on Saturday in FSU's 12-4 win over Livingstone in game two of a doubleheader.
Fayetteville State returns to conference action on Tuesday at Seabrook Park with a doubleheader against the Johnson C. Smith Lady Golden Bulls. Game one of the twin billing begins at 2 p.m. followed by game two at 4 p.m.
