FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Fayetteville State University softball team seeks its first win of the season when it plays its home opener against Benedict College on Wednesday. The doubleheader begins at 1 pm, with Game 2 slated to start two hours later. Admission is free to the public.

The Lady Broncos went 0-5 to start their season earlier this month in Orangeburg, SC. A slate of three CIAA games in Raleigh were postponed this past weekend due to unplayable conditions following the winter storm. Benedict enters play 2-2.

Amanda Anderson (Hope Mills, NC), Clarissa Pitts (Hope Mills, NC) and Sierra Henderson-Holmes (Olivia, NC) are each hitting .300 or higher this season. Henderson-Holmes is responsible for two of the team's five doubles and two of the team's 12 walks.

Anderson and Kyrin Walker (Carthage, NC) are tied with the team RBI lead at two apiece. Spencer Embler (Thomasville, NC) and Ivory Gladden (Greensboro, NC) have also driven in runners.

While no Lady Broncos player has scored more than one run this season, Pitts, Henderson-Holmes, Daniqua Taylor (Currie, NC), Alex Wickham (Fayetteville, NC), Walker and Rebekah Reep (Fayetteville, NC) have scored this year.

Walker (Carthage, NC) , Rebecca Polaschek (Fayetteville, NC) and Zoe Howard (Hampstead, NC) have all seen time in the circle as pitcher so far this season.

Benedict and FSU share one common opponent thus far this season. Each team has lost to Limestone, with the Tigers dropping a 16-2 decision and the Lady Broncos falling 15-1 in Orangeburg. The Tigers split two games against teams from the CIAA, losing 11-3 to St. Augustine's before beating Shaw 8-0.
