Box Score

Ettrick, VA – The Fayetteville State University women’s softball dropped their day two matchup of the 2017 CIAA Softball Championships to Chowan (13-0) on Friday, May 5th at the Virginia State Softball Field. FSU falls into the consolation bracket to face Bowie State University (North No. 2 seed) on Saturday, May 6th at the VSU Softball Field. Game time is slated for 12 noon.

Chowan dictated the game from the very beginning. The Hawks had four runs and three hits in the top of the first, including back to back homeruns from Tina White and then Brittany Parson. FSU gave up six runs and five hits in the third for a 10-0 deficit.

All-CIAA junior first baseman HaLee Knowles (Wallace, NC) had the Lady Broncos’ only hit of the contest. Knowles singled to start the bottom of the second inning. However, Chowan held FSU scoreless and added three runs in the fourth to account for the 13-0 final (five innings).

Senior utility Zoe Howard (Hampstead, NC) pitched the majority of the game with some relief from All-CIAA junior pitcher Carley Green (Fayetteville, NC) and senior pitcher Kyrin Walker (Carthage, NC).

Fayetteville State will clash with Bowie State for the second time this season. The Lady Bulldogs hung onto a 1-0 victory during the CIAA Roundup. Winner will face Chowan in the championship game matchup. With the tournament structured for double elimination, the Hawks must lose twice to either FSU or BSU for one of them to win the crown.
