FAYETTEVILLE STATE SOFTBALL SHUTS OUT SHAW IN DIVISIONAL DOUBLEHEADER

Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State University women’s softball team pulled out back to back shut out victories (8-0, 8-0) against Shaw University on Saturday, April 22nd at Seabrook Park. FSU improves to 17-15 overall, 10-2 in the CIAA, and 6-2 in the Southern.

Junior pitcher Carley Green (Fayetteville, NC) improved to 8-4 on the season with the 8-0 win in the first contest. Green pitched all six innings with seven strikeouts and only two hits allowed. Junior catcher Shi-Cara Goins (Asheboro, NC) had two hits and two runs scored in game one.

The Lady Broncos produced two runs in the first and six runs in the sixth to wrap up the game in six innings due to the NCAA eight run rule.

Senior pitcher Kyrin Walker (Carthage, NC) earned the credit for the game two 8-0 win. Walker pitched all five innings with only two hits allowed along with two strikeouts and one walk. Junior shortstop Brittany Lee (Newton, NJ) had four RBIs, one run scored, and one hit off an inside the park homerun recorded in the third inning.

Shaw allowed one run in each of the first two innings. Lee cracked opened the game with her shot to the right field corner, which resulted into the inside the park homer. FSU led 7-0 after three innings. Freshman infielder Rachel Rodriguez (Lillington, NC) doubled to left center in the fourth to scored senior second baseman Zoe Howard (Hampstead, NC) for the eighth run.

The Lady Bears failed to score a run in the top of the fifth. Fayetteville State won game two by a score of 8-0 in five innings.

 

 

FSU will return to action on Saturday, April 29th in a split doubleheader against Elizabeth City State University and Livingstone College. The Lady Broncos play ECSU at 1:00 p.m. followed by a 3:00 p.m. matchup versus Livingstone. Both games will be played at Seabrook Park.
