Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville State (17-23, 11-1 CIAA) put the bat on the ball in an 8-0 win in the second game against Virginia Union. Four Lady Broncos hit doubles in 11 hits. Rakhee Smith had the most hits in the game with three (2 singles and 1 double). April Branch had two RBI's and one double. Pitcher Kristen Britt (9-12) struck out seven of 16 batters. Four Lady Panthers flew out to an outfielder, three grounded out to an infielder, and one managed a single to right center. Kristen Britt (freshman - Delco, NC) had a no-hitter leading up to the fourth inning. She struck out six of the nine batters faced in the first three innings. The Lady Broncos put up two runs in the first and second inning for a 4-0 lead. An error by the Lady Panthers in the bottom of the third inning allowed a run in to increase the lead to five. Fayetteville State made a run for the win in the bottom of the fourth inning. Dominique Mills singled to left field to get the ball rolling. She advanced to second base on a passed ball. April Branch (freshman - Pender, NC) doubled down the left line to bring Mills home. Now standing on second, Branch advanced to third and rounded home when Rakhee Smith (sophomore - Hope Mills, NC) hit a doubled to center field. Demarius Pankey (sophomore - Laurinburg, NC) hit the fourth double of the game when she sent the ball flying into the centerfield for an RBI. Smith scored. Fayetteville State will play for the CIAA Western Division title on Wednesday evening (April 8th) when the Lady Broncos host Johnson C. Smith in a double-header at 5:00 pm. The game will be played at Seabrook Park.
