Fayetteville NC - The Lady Broncos defeated Virginia Union (0-17, 0-15 CIAA) 7-1 in the first of a home double-header softball game today in Seabrook Park. Pitcher Tracy Brighter of Fayetteville State (16-23, 10-1 CIAA) was two hits away from throwing her fourth no-hitter game of the season. One of the hits for the Lady Panthers came from the first batter of the third inning and the third batter in the sixth. The Lady Broncos collected a game total of four hits, seven runs, and six RBIs.

Fayetteville State scored a run in the first and second inning. The Lady Broncos collected two hits in the third inning but scored two runs from an error by the centerfielder. Bobbi Boucher hit the ball in play. Ahead 5-0, FSU failed to put the game away with the mercy rule as the third out came with the bases loaded.

The Lady Broncos added a run in the fourth and fifth inning. Brighter (6-5 on the mound) threw all seven innings and faced 30 batters. She struck out 20 at the plate but walked seven. One batter grounded out
