WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Fayetteville State softball team dropped two games on Saturday afternoon to the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams in CIAA Southern Division action. The Lady Broncos fell 7-1 in game one before being edged in game two 3-2. Sierra Henderson-Holmes (So., Olivia, NC) led FSU with two hits on the afternoon.
Four different Lady Bronco hitters had one hit apiece in game one as Maya Washington (Jr., Red Springs, NC) recorded one RBI. Monet Daly and Mariha Freeman posted two hits each for Winston-Salem State.
The Lady Rams scored in each of the first three innings while collecting seven hits. Fayetteville State tallied one run in the top of the third inning.
Spencer Embler (Jr., Thomasville, NC) took the loss in game one surrendering three earned runs and no walks in six innings of work. Brittany Lane picked up the win after tossing a complete game giving up the one run.
Henderson-Holmes led the FSU offense in game two with two hits while Kelsy Urquhart (Fr., Sneads Ferry, NC) had one RBI. Daly added three hits for Winston-Salem State.
The Lady Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on Urquhart's RBI single; but WSSU responded to tie the game after plating a single run in the third inning. FSU re-took the lead at 2-1 in the top of the seventh after Jessica Randolph (Jr., Pinetops, NC) scored on a Lady Ram throwing error. Winston-Salem State won the game in the bottom of the seven when it recorded two runs.
Kristen Bell (Fr., Hubert, NC) suffered the loss pitching 6.2 innings while allowing two earned runs and no walks. Yasmin Lee gave up seven hits over the course of seven innings to receive the win.
FSU will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 6 when it hosts the Shaw Bears in a doubleheader at Seabrook Park. Game one of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. followed by game two at 3 p.m.
