WILSON, NC - Fayetteville State dropped a pair of softball games in Wilson, NC, 0-5 and 5-8, to Barton College. The Lady Broncos (3-14 overall) managed a total of nine hits in the double header but gave way to eight errors.

Barton (12-14 overall) scored its five points in the first three innings from five hits. The Bulldogs scored one run in the first from a bases loaded walk. BC put the bat to the ball four times in the second inning. With bases loaded, a single flew down the middle which allowed two runs.

Rebekah Reep helped bring the inning to a close by turning a ground ball into a double play. FSU had three hits in the first and second inning trailing 3-0.

After three-up and three-down bats for the Lady Broncos, Barton loaded the bases in the bottom of the third inning with a walk and two fielders' choice. The third fielder's choice produced the first out of the bottom half which halted the Bulldogs from crossing home plate. Unfortunately, the next batter was walked, which gave BC a 4-0 advantage. Facing two outs, Barton singled to shortstop which allowed another runner.

FSU stalled in the following four innings. A total of four runners with left on base with only one hit collected.

The Bulldogs jumped to an early 5-0 lead after closing out the first inning of the second game. Barton extended its lead by one more before FSU landed on the scoreboard in the third inning.

After two outs, Daniqua Taylor reached on a base on balls and cross home with an unearned run. The score was made possible after the right fielder erred on a Jessica Randolph bat. Randolph scored the Lady Broncos second run after Alex Wickham singled to right center.

Falling behind 7-2 after four innings, Fayetteville State opened the fifth with two singles hit by Amanda Anderson and Taylor. Randolph made way for the two to cross home plate with a double down the right line. She later scored on a wild pitch to bring FSU within two, trailing 5-7.

The Bronco rally came to a halt when Barton added another run and the final six at bats failed to produce.

Fayetteville State will host a make-up double header against Bluefield State on Friday, March 28 at 2:00 and 4:00 pm.
