When it was announced the softball contest between Barton College and Fayetteville State University would be covered by NCESPN, the Lady Broncos spirits went sky high. Unfortunately, their high spirits were not matched with a winning performance. The Lady Broncos lost to Barton College 4-2 in the first game and 11-0 in the second contest. The win was Barton fourteenth in fifteen meeting between the schools.
In the first game, Barton's Lady Bulldogs set the tone early in the second inning, scoring three runs on three hits and an error. Kim Page saw her no-hitter go down the tunnel in the fifth inning when FSU's Shatia Gidrey led the inning with a single to left field. Yvonne Alvarez singled over shortstop, advancing Gidrey to second. LaToya Brown and Sadi Morris struck out and Erica Jester popped up to first, ending FSU's attempts to close the gap.
The Lady Broncos scoring came in the sixth inning. Aja Sawyer reached first on a bunt down the third base line. Ariel McNair singled to left field advancing Sawyer to second. Donieca Ebron reached first on a fielder choice with McNair out at second. Sawyer advanced to third. DeOndra Peterson struck out, but a throwing error by the catcher allowed Sawyer to score. The attempt to get Sawyer at the plate allowed Ebron to go to second. Another throwing error by the catcher put Ebron on third. The shortstop over threw third base and Ebron scored. Gidrey struck out ending the inning. The Lady Broncos were able to score two runs on two hits and two errors.
In the second game, it was all Barton as they scored in the first, fourth and fifth innings. Kim Page limited the Lady Broncos to only two hits. The loss drops FSU to 0-14 for the season, the longest losing streak in FSU's fastpitch softball history and Barton upped their season to 12-15.
